Telecommunication

  1. Procurement, deployment and maintenance of Wireless Communication Equipment by the field formations of CBEC.
  2. Planning, management and training of Group ‘A’, ‘B’ & ‘C’ Telecommunication personnel including cadre control of Group ‘B’ Telecommunication staff

The Telecommunication wing of the Directorate of Logistics was created in 1974 to provide secure and real time communication to officers engaged in Anti-Smuggling operations and to reinforce and strengthen the Customs anti-smuggling formations.

With improved means of communication, like cellular phones, e-mail, fax etc., demand for wireless communication in the Customs & central Excise department for anti-smuggling operations declined and accordingly Ministry reduced the manpower of Telecommunication wing from time to time.

In this background, the requirement of Telecommunication staff has been assessed and based on the re-assessment of the requirement of Telecommunication staff; a cadre restructuring proposal for various cadres of the Telecommunication Wing is under consideration with Ministry.
